I have joined Living Social and Love the Living Social "feed" box you have on the ATVJ website, but I cannot seem to make one of my own? Where did you get it?

The "Grab it" button gives me some html that shows the box, but no content. Any suggestions on how I could get one of those with my own content in it to add to a web page? Thanks.

I'm asking so I can post my own Living Social box on my MyAppleSpace.com web page. Thanks! (I already joined the AppleTV group there and recommended this site to em all!)

knmrp you are definitely not being dumb. Apple and or the Studios do this from time to time. I remember at one point Apple had listed The Biggest Loser as an HD download for a few days only to remove it complete never to be seen again. I would say it was growing pains be we see it WAY too much with the movie rentals.

Standard Def Season 5 is there but link to HD season 5 and the season itself is missing as of earlier today. Either I'm being dumb, Apple have screwed the pooch or NBC have had a change of policy/heart???

Okay, in honor of this Halloween season, here are my Top 10 horror flicks. But just to let you know, I've been watching scary movies since I was a little kid, so it takes a lot for me to get freaked out. For instance, the Exorcists, that movie makes me laugh! Too many cheesy 1970's "Special Effect." I guess you can say I've been some what desensitized! A movie has to be more psychologically scary then gory. The one that does this for me is The Grudge! So here the list:

1. The Grudge
2. The Shining
3. Bram Stocker's Dracula
5. The Omen (1976)
6. The Ring
7. The Exorcism of Emily Rose
8. Nightmare on Elm's Street
9. Halloween
10. Friday the 13th

Can you imagine watching these movies alone on a deserted island?! You'd definitely go crazy!

I have used Lostify to add info to my TV shows. For Movies I just copy and paste a description and release date from IMDB.com.

I actually use a personally chosen still frame from the movie rather than a movie poster or DVD cover art. Just a preference, and I enjoy picking a good widescreen image out. :)

I rely on MetaX to fill in the details. I may update the rating field because I do use the parental controls on the Apple TV and I want to make sure it doesn't cut out movies that are appropriate(and vice versa). If MetaX is missing anything else I usually leave it. My biggest requirement is to have a cover for the movie - purely for eye candy.

Currently I have 145 movies and 694 episodes of TV on the hard drive using about 550 gigs of space.

The plan is to split TV and Movies to seperate hard drives once I need the space (Battlestar Season 1 HD is taking up a sizeable chunk right now.)

Ian,

I have a 95GB/month limit and I usually get to at least 75% or more per month. The way I deal with it: monitor my usage, usually around mid-month. Unfortunately the prevailing attitude of ISPs and many of the public is "what the heck do you need all that bandwidth for? Surely no one needs 95GB!". Not much I can do up in Canada as there is little competition and both major networks (Bell Canada and Rogers) have caps. My ISP also has throttling in place, although I find it's time-of-day based. Downloads are significantly faster after 10 pm, for example.

I have a friend in Japan who has true fiber optic 100 MB/s service for the equivalent of 30$/month. That is 100MB/s up and down with no cap, no throttling.

I have linked my AppleTV with iTunes running on my Windows Home Server. The Home Server currently has 4.5TB of storage (two 500GB, 2 1TB and one 1.5TB discs). I mirror the library across two physical discs. I have the AppleTV connected on Cat6 to my Gigabyte hub (shame ATV is only 100MB). I am currently using storage at a rate of 200GB per month. Other than spinning five discs the server uses very little power and is on 24/7. I use the integrated graphics and a very low power AMD dual core CPU. No screen, keyboard, mouse.

I have many hundreds of DVDs, HDDVDs and Blu-Rays that would be wonderful to have consolidated on my ATV.

For large amounts of storage I chose the server as it means that my content is always available, and it is backed up. Any other box may be in sleep mode when I wanted the content. In an Apple environment you would need to select a machine that was always on when you needed it for synced data.

So the other week XBMC was release for ATV. I don't think most people understand how huge that is. It allows ATV to do so much more and easily I might add. I know there are a lot of hacks out there for ATV but XBMC is very user friendly and by using the atvusb-creator found here (http://code.google.com/p/atvusb-creator/) install is a piece of cake. But what most people do not realize is there is a company called MediaMall that has make PlayOn. It is advertised as a way to stream Hulu, CBS, ESPN, NetFlix and more to a ps3 or xbox360. BUT you can also use XBMC with it! Now granted the quality is not great the shows are encoded for you computer but still the amount of free content available is HUGE! You guys (ATVJ) should really do a write up on it.

I am glad to see ATVJ forums up and at it...

I absolutely love my ATV - the best part of my Apple network and only wish that it received the plaudits that I believe it deserves.

I am looking for some technical advice as to the best way in which to set up my Apple Tv to work best within my Apple network.

My objective is to make the most of my movie collection that I am slowly adding to a 1TB HDD...

I will await a response before I go into any more detail as I do not want to upset the moderators or anyone else at ATVJ if they do not intend for there to be discussion on such issues. Once I have the green light, I will explain my setup in a bit more detail.

My ISP strangled my 8MB ADSL connection after 16 days of last month and 70GB of downloads. As the AppleTV experience was somewhat diminished by at 28KB connection, what ISPs are people using in the US and the UK that do not impose such a draconian limit. Even more annoying my ISP did not use deep packet inspection to differentiate streaming traffic, it just shut down the connection and waited for my call.

One thought I had was to install a second ADSL connection and buy a router that can bond both connections giving me a performance boost as well as doubling the capacity.

The ISPs need to wake up to the fact that video on demand is springing up all around them and they must realize that the world has changed.

3. Field of Dreams
4. A Christmas Story
5. Meet John Doe
6. Young Frankenstein
7. Brazil
8. 2001: A Space Odyssey
9. Close Encounters of the Third Kind
10. It's a Wonderful Life

I wish I could include Lord of the Rings Trilogy as one movie (...in which case I would include all 3 original Star Wars movies as well...) :)

Close, but not quite Top 10:
V for Vendetta
Casablanca
12 Monkeys
His Girl Friday
A.I. Artificial Intelligence
Raiders of the Lost Ark
A Fish Called Wanda
Monty Python and the Holy Grail

... guess that would make it my Top 20... :)

Occasionally, there's a HD movie for rent that bears the tell-tale pixelization that's apparent when a print isn't digitally transferred properly.

I'd love to find out what movies you've rented that aren't up to "High-Definition" snuff.

The other day, I rented "The Bourne Supremacy," and pixelization was clearly visible in its many dark, and "shadowy" scenes (I'm not referring to the plot).

What have any of you noticed?
